The participants
will spend their month in the NGO with regular visits to Haifa Hospital.
In the
hospital, the participants are allowed to choose to rotate in any department(s)
they wish. The complexity of their work and their involvement in the
management of patients depends on their academic level and the permission
of the physicians responsible there.
In the
NGO, the participants can join the activities that the NGO already runs,
can initiate new activities, and/or can run activities that the local
SCORP has provided. This includes preventive medicine and health awareness
lectures, English lessons, computer literacy, music and art activities.
The participants
can also work on Saturdays in an outpatient setting in another refugee
camp (Shatila) inside Beirut. The organization in called "the Voluntary
Outreach Clinic" and is run by volunteer medical students (mostly
SCORP members) as well as by several volunteer doctors.
The participants
are expected to write a brief report on the month they have spent in
the camp and to fill out an evaluation form prepared by the local SCORP
group.
This project
is scheduled to occur in the summer (July - August) extending over one
month. Five to 10 applicants will be considered for the summer. Food,
housing, and transportation will be provided.
